CHAMP
Responding to climate change effects through mitigation or adaptation measures is a big challenge for cities already now and this challenge will increase in the future. How this challenge can be met through implementing an integrated management system is subject to “CHAMP – Climate Change Response through Managing Urban Europe 27 Platform” that started on the 1 January 2009.
In CHAMP UBC EnvCom works together with six partners in Finland, Germany, Hungary and Italy.
The project focuses on capacity building and awareness raising concerning integrated management systems as a tool to respond to the challenge of climate change effects. Four national training hubs in Finland, Germany, Italy and Hungary will train and support local and subregional authorities in implementing integrated management systems to prepare adaptation and mitigation plans.
The project aims at reducing its own carbon footprint through the use of increased e-technologies so that many travels for example are not need anymore. This approach is something new and is a challenge for the whole consortium.
CHAMP will end in 2011 with a interactive online final conference.
The project is partly-funded by the LIFE+ financial instrument of the European Community.
