UBC Environment and Sustainable Development Secretariat offers a variety of trainings and consultation services to cities. These trainings are envisioned to empower local government units, local stakeholders and people in the community on the concepts, principles, applications and models for sustainable development and especially on integrated management. These trainings can serve as a venue for sharing experiences and developing new cooperation.

Commission on Environment meetings
The UBC Commission on Environment aims at spurring the Unions’ member cities on continuous dialogue on how to make the Baltic Sea Region more sustainable. Increasing exchange of information either by meeting colleagues from other cities or learning from each other through variety of UBC projects are some of the practical ways of helping the member cities in their work towards sustainability.

Good Practice Database
Good Practices are actions, mechanisms or methods that provide positive results for a specific objective. In a Good Practice something new and different has been implemented. This can be new or different solutions to existing ones. Solutions can be completely new or incorporated by transference from other contexts.
The database offers Good Practices around the Baltic Sea Region. These are practices inserted by active cities themselves or identified from different sources. The database is open so You can contribute your own Good Practice and share it with others.
Sustainable Development Surveys
UBC has for more than 12 years been evaluating the progress related to sustainable cities via different types of surveys in cooperation with research institutions. With these surveys Union of the Baltic cities is quite unique!

Best Environmental Practice in Baltic Cities Award
Many of the practices arising from the local governments' decisions provide excellent support to the attainment of sustainable development on the local level. These practices can also act as useful models for other cities. The intention with the Best Environmental Practice in Baltic Cities Award is to encourage member cities to develop their administration and services in innovative ways for the good of the whole municipality and its citizens.

Baltic Cities Environmental Bulletin
Published twice a year, with a variety of sustainability topics. All bulletins are available for download on-line.
Sustainability Projects
We assist local authorities in the Baltic Sea Region to initiate, apply and run projects on variety of sustainability topics. The themes and actions in the project are tailor made for the needs of the project partners to assist the ongoing process in the local authorities towards sustainable development.
